#rwby #yang xiao long #yang rwby #redesign #character redesign #gold's edits #in case anyone was wondering #the flaming wheel pattern is not a reference to her bike #it's actually a nod to nezha from chinese mythology #yang's character arc and backstory have a lot in common with nezha's story so i wanted to combine that with the goldilocks aesthetic #a lot of her outfit was structured with nezha (and li ling from dislyte) in mind but made to be cutesy for the goldilocks feel #also the boots are oversized because they're not hers #i showed a friend who doesn't watch rwby a wip shot of this redesign and he suggested giving yang steel-toed boots #that were too big for her because “she stole them from papa bear”#which i found so fucking funny that i added it in but decided that she took them from junior instead since that guy is huge #and he's technically the only one of the bears that yang actually met #yes. this also means that junior walked around in public with boots that had tiny bears on them.

do you remember when the main piece of information we had about china in the mainstream was that everyone rode a bike. you couldn't even craft a joke about that that would hit at all anymore

#if you don't remember that. well back in the day twenty years ago they mostly rode bikes for transportation in china #based on what I was told in the american second grade class where I wrote a report on chinese dog breeds for the china unit #the assignment was literally like 'do anything to turn in relating to china' like you could built a model or cook food or something #and i was like very enchanted by the idea of Writing a Report for the first time and it was a hard pill to swallow #after it was already too late to go back. turns out that is not very fun. and we literally put it in a report binder!! wow #shar peis have black tongues...

My toxic trait is doing things that are technically possible but extremely uncomfortable and inconvenient, and once I’ve started doing the things, I absolutely REFUSE to give up even at the detriment of literally everything else because BY GOD YOU WILL DO WHAT I NEED YOU TO DO

#Exhibit A: Dragging home an iron hand truck and my bike at the same time because I saw it in the trash and Needed It #It helps in education more often than not because that immovable unfrustratable mentality makes me work well #with kids who are extremely stubborn about not wanting to do any work at all who the teachers have kind of said “I’m done” to #I kind of view their behavior as a brain teaser so I’ll completely take over working with those kids and usually it goes great #but I still need to learn when to back the hell off in certain situations and with certain kids #Sometimes I end up Chinese finger-trapping the situation by using way too much force when I should relax
